MUTANT TOAD

The Mutant Toad is a flaptail bait made from the Recon body. The body is shortened by an inch in the front to make a flatter front that pushes more water. There is a 2 inch (62 thousandths) wire on the front that can be adjusted to change the nose up/nose down angle of the bait. The Mutant Toad has 3 hooks - one near the front and two drop hooks near the back. On the large size, the front hook is also a drop hook.

There are 5 screw eyes on the back so you can attach 1 to 5 blades in various positions. The drop hooks can be bent to hit the blade.

CRANKY NITRO PENATRATOR

The Penatrator is made from the hardwood Nitro body. The lip is longer and inserted at a different angle than the Cranky Nitro. It will run about 12 to 15 feet deep when casting.

CRANKY GETTIN' DOWN

This is a countdown bait that sinks at the rate of 1 foot per second. It is made from the hardwood Cranky Nitro body and weight is added. The action is maintained.

CRANKY NITRO BREKKE MOD

This bait is made from the cedar Cranky Nitro body. It has a metal lip instead of a lexan lip. A screw eye is added to the back for a spinner blade. The bait is intended to run nose down with the tail barely breaking the surface. It can be run deeper like a regular crankbait. The blade flops back and forth.

The idea belongs to an older friend, Rodde Brekke. Rodde made a bait called the Brekke Bait on a limited basis. He isn't producing the bait and with his permission we took the concept and applied it to our Nitro body.

SPASTIC CRANKY NITRO

This bait is made from the hardwood Cranky Nitro body. A rubber tail is added. The tail is attached by a spring and can be changed. It runs 5 to 8 feet deep. It has a little more action than the hardwood Cranky Nitro. The belly roll is accentuated. It can be twitched or jerked. It can be made to walk the dog.

CRANKY HARDHEAD

This bait is made from a shortened hardwood Nitro body. It has a metal lip rather than a lexan lip and a large tail has been added. The tail is attached by a spring and can be changed. The center screw on the lip can be removed to add screw-in weight. There is also a screw insert toward the back to add weight.

The bait sinks nose down at a rate of 1 to 2 feet per second. It runs as deep as you let it sink. It can be cranked back. Short pulls will cause it to stair step down. It can be worked across the bottom.

The basic idea for this bait came from Howie Meyer, Seven Islands Guide Service in Presque Isle.  We made some refinements to his idea to come up with the Cranky Hard Head.

The Spastic Nitro has the same basic action as the Nitro, but a little more subdued. A rubber tail has been added for a different action. The tail is attached by a spring and can be changed. With irregular jerks and pauses, the action is more spastic (up and down, sideways). Small taps provides the best walk the dog action. A softer tip rod is recommended for the best action.
