This bait is made from a shortened hardwood Nitro body. It has a metal lip rather than a lexan lip and a large tail has been added. The tail can be changed. The center screw on the lip can be removed to add screw-in weight. There is also a screw insert toward the back to add weight.
The bait sinks nose down at a rate of 1 to 2 feet per second. It runs as deep as you let it sink. It can be cranked back. Short pulls will cause it to stair step down. It can be worked across the bottom.
The basic idea for this bait came from Howie Meyer, Seven Islands Guide Service in Presque Isle. We made some refinements to his idea to come up with the Cranky Hardhead.
